About Us

Group work

The School works in groups, discussing and working purposefully together.

All tutors are also students of philosophy in the school, and attend weekly classes as a student. It is a process of  ‘learn and teach’ and knowledge arises in the dialogue between student and teacher.

The intent of the school is that everyone attending, however long or short their stay, will find something of value for use in their lives.

All are welcome

This is a course for everyone and all are welcome to sample what the school has to offer by attending our introductory course. Some students come for just one term and others continue for many years. We have a community of students who enjoy our open and inclusive mode of study who have been with us for many years.

We are an educational charity and a not-for-profit organisation and we try to keep our course fees as low as possible.

How it works

A tutor presents material, and leads a discussion based on what arises. Being practical rather than purely academic, students practise rather than just talk about philosophy so first-hand experience is highly valued. Students are encouraged neither to accept nor reject the ideas put forward, but to test them in practice for themselves, in the light of their own experience.
