One-off Sessions

These One-off informal sessions in the school holidays will explore any philosophical topic or question which you or others might present. Each session will be self-contained and no prior knowledge will be required. If you have a question or a topic you would like to discuss please send it/them to Peterr@fses.org.  There will be a wide variety of interesting studies or activities to practise at each session. There may be guest speakers and each session will be engaging, awakening, practical and enjoyable and hopefully enlightening.  If requested by our current students, we could also cover some of the fundamental topics which students may have missed in the early parts of the course.

Experimentation & Questions

There will be an element of experimentation and we will explore any question, keeping it practical and relevant without reverting to dogma.

You may have questions of your own, or topics you would like to discuss, so bring them along and we would be happy to explore them with the group.

It will usually involve three elements:

1) Study of some aspect of philosophy from East or West possibly presenting works of great philosophers like Plato, Socrates, Shankara, Lao Tsu, Dalai Lama, Sri Shantananda Sarasvati and other teachers from the great seats of Vedantic wisdom in India. We will keep it appropriate to those who attend and will always welcome and respond to questions.

2) Practice a philosophical exercise and share our experiences.

3) Enjoy tea and coffee and good company in the Hub Cafe.

It takes place during the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays on Tuesdays 2.15-4.30pm at The Hampton Inspired Hub, 3 Ashley Rd, TW12 2JA. (Conference Room) and the next sessions will be around Easter on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th April 2026.

How it works on our educational courses

A tutor presents material, and leads a discussion based on what arises. Being practical rather than academic, the emphasis is on personal knowledge. Students are encouraged neither to accept nor reject the ideas put forward, but to test them in practice for themselves, in the light of their own experience.

The present moment

“This course ‘woke me up’, particularly to the present moment. Learning to use the ‘full stop’ between daily events and pausing, rather than everything running in to one continuum”

Very practical

“I have thoroughly enjoyed this course. It has been very practical and has given me lots of tools and exercises to use in my daily life. Coming back each week and feeding back to the group has reinforced what I have learned and given me extra pointers”.
