We offer two types of Residential Retreat:
1)Our Waterperry Mid-week Retreats which are open to all-comers and are usually Subject-based e.g Plato, Bhagavad Gita, Marsilio Ficino, Economics with Justice, Sacred Geometry, Introduction to Sanskrit etc. Details of these can be seen on a separate page on this website.
2)Practical Philosophy Group Residential Retreats which are organised for students who are at broadly the same stage in their study of Practical Philosophy and groups are invited to these events from all over the UK and sometimes from affiliated schools around the world. Students can attend these residential retreats from their second year onwards if they so wish and they are of course all very welcome. They would meet, study and work together with students from other UK branches and they are very enjoyable and inspiring events and entirely relevant to their stage in the study.
A residential retreat provides an opportunity to make a deeper penetration of the study in a more sustained way than is possible in a weekly class; there are fewer distractions and students usually enjoy the good company and camaraderie of the larger group. For many these become regular unmissable events in their annual calendar.
These events are held at Waterperry House in Oxfordshire, a delightful country estate with beautiful gardens, a museum of rural life and some extraordinary frescoes painted by our art group depicting the philosophy taught by the school.
The estate is just a 75 minute drive from Kingston. The residential retreat programme includes periods of study, reflection, quiet time or meditation as well as practical work. The events are run and serviced by the tutors and students on the retreat.
The historic house has been much extended and modernised and provides comfortable accommodation for up to seventy students.
The residential fees are kept to a minimum. (£60/night full board@2023 rates)
(We also run online weekends and weeks for those who are not able to attend in person.)
